The Dubai Court of Appeal has upheld a verdict against a Chinese man who murdered his roommate following a dispute. The Court of Appeal upheld the verdict on Wednesday, sentencing him to three years in jail followed by deportation. The court also upheld a verdict for the man’s friend who tried to help him leave the country, sentencing him to a month in jail, but cancelling his deportation order. According to records, the Chinese man, identified by his initials X.H., slammed his Chinese roommate’s head against the iron bed following an argument when X.H. refused to let him sleep in their room. He was drunk at the time of the incident in September last year. The victim slept in the hall after other residents in their accommodation broke up the fight. The following morning, they found him dead in the hall. Police arrested X.H. He was convicted of causing death by assault. He told the court that he did not intend to kill his roommate.
