Authorities have fined 235 jet ski riders in Dubai for violating marine safety laws, as part of intensified efforts to ensure compliance with maritime regulations. The Dubai Police’s Ports Police Station reported issuing a total of 400 marine violations, targeting not only jet skis but also other marine vessels and illegal fishing activities. Brigadier Dr. Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi, Director of the Ports Police Station, revealed that 165 violations were recorded against various marine vessels, while 11 cases involved illegal fishing and another 11 against ships. He stressed the importance of strict enforcement to maintain safety on Dubai’s waters. "The violations against jet skis were mainly due to expired licenses, entering swimming zones and hotel beach areas, operating outside authorized hours, failing to wear life jackets, and allowing underage individuals to drive," Al Suwaidi said. He warned that these violations pose serious risks to both riders and the public. Fines for jet ski violations vary based on the offense. Driving a jet ski with an expired license incurs a fine of Dh1,000, while operating one outside authorized hours costs Dh2,000. Riders caught without proper safety equipment, such as life jackets, face the steepest penalty of Dh3,000. Other marine vessels were penalized for similar violations, including expired licenses (Dh1,000), navigating in prohibited areas (up to Dh5,000), and operating at unauthorized times (Dh1,000). Al Suwaidi noted that the violations were recorded across multiple coastal areas in Dubai. Dubai Police has ramped up its patrol efforts, deploying specialized teams to monitor compliance along the emirate’s waters. "We urge all jet ski owners and marine vessel operators to adhere to safety regulations and respect designated areas," Al Suwaidi emphasized.
