Dubai Police confirmed that one person died and two others were injured in a three-vehicle collision caused by tailgating on Emirates Road. The accident happened on Monday (September 1) just after the Dubai Club Bridge heading towards Sharjah. Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said the Command and Control Center received a report about the crash at 1:30pm. “Initial investigations revealed that the collision occurred when one driver failed to maintain a safe distance behind the vehicle in front, resulting in the crash. This tragic incident led to one person's death and injuries to two others, who sustained varying degrees of injuries—from moderate to minor—and were transported to the hospital for necessary medical treatment,” Bin Suwaidan said. He added that traffic experts immediately arrived at the scene to conduct inspections, while patrols secured the area and managed traffic flow to allow ambulances and recovery teams swift access. “They also worked efficiently to remove the damaged vehicles, restoring smooth traffic flow and preventing congestion,” he noted. Dubai Police warned motorists about the dangers of tailgating, calling it one of the most frequent and deadly traffic violations in the UAE. Under federal traffic law, drivers who fail to maintain a safe distance face a Dh400 fine and four black points on their license. Fatal crashes caused by violations such as tailgating, jumping red lights, or driving under the influence can result in at least one year of imprisonment and fines of Dh100,000 or more. Bin Suwaidan urged drivers to prioritize safe driving practices. “Maintaining a safe distance is a vital aspect of defensive driving, essential for preserving lives and property,” he said, adding that Dubai Police continues to roll out awareness campaigns addressing speeding, distracted driving, and tailgating.
