Dubai Police has issued a fresh warning to motorists after a driver stopping in the middle of the road led to a three-vehicle collision on Al Khail Road. The incident occurred on the stretch heading towards Abu Dhabi, when a motorist abruptly halted in the middle of the road to retrieve a fallen licence plate. Police said a second driver, who was inattentive, failed to stop in time and crashed into the stationary vehicle, pushing it into two other cars. The crash resulted in three injuries, including one person in critical condition. Emergency responders transported the injured to hospital. Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan said stopping in the middle of the road poses serious risks and can lead to major accidents. “Stopping in the middle of the road poses grave dangers, frequently leading to severe accidents, fatalities, and injuries,” he said. He urged drivers to contact police immediately if their vehicle becomes immobilised instead of attempting risky actions. Police reminded motorists that stopping in the middle of the road carries a Dh1,000 fine and six black points, along with an additional Dh500 penalty for obstructing traffic. Drivers were also advised to switch on hazard lights, place warning triangles where possible, move to a safe location, and prioritise passenger safety while waiting for assistance.
