Dubai Crown Prince regulates public libraries to promote more access to knowledge
The Dubai Executive Council's Executive Council Resolution No. 1 (78) of 2022 was released by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, which outlines the rules governing public libraries in Dubai. The resolution hopes to improve knowledge dissemination further by fostering a culture of reading, strengthening national identity among young people, and educating them about the value of innovation and scientific research. Executive Council Resolution No. 1 (78) provisions cover all Dubai public libraries, including free zones, special development zones like the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and digital libraries. The provisions of this resolution do not apply to libraries established per specific laws that are not associated with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority or libraries run by governmental organizations within their office buildings.
