Dubai motorists will need to prepare for changes as Salik implements variable toll pricing that puts the toll at Dh6 for peak hours starting January 31. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the update on Friday (January 17), introducing peak-hour rates to improve traffic flow. From Monday to Saturday, peak-hour tolls will rise to Dh6 during the morning (6am to 10am) and evening (4pm to 8pm) rush hours. Off-peak tolls will remain at Dh4 between 10am to 4pm and 8pm to 1am. On Sundays, the toll will remain Dh4 throughout the day. There will be no toll fees from 1am to 6am daily. Special timings will apply during Ramadan, with peak-hour fees adjusted to Dh6 from 9am to 5pm. Off-peak charges during Ramadan will be Dh4, with no fees between 2am to 7am. Salik clarified that existing policies, such as charging only once for passing the same toll gate in one direction within an hour, remain unchanged. Motorists are advised to plan their commutes to avoid peak-hour charges. “These changes aim to manage traffic congestion effectively,” a spokesperson from the RTA said.
