A Dubai court has ordered an Asian driver to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the heirs of a woman he killed in a tragic road accident. The court also fined the driver Dh10,000 and suspended his driving license for six months. The accident occurred when the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing his vehicle to mount the sidewalk and fatally hit the victim, an Asian woman waiting at a bus stop. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after the collision. The Dubai Public Prosecution charged the motorist with reckless driving, and the Traffic Court convicted him, imposing both criminal and financial penalties. The verdict has since become final after the appeal window expired. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has filed a separate civil lawsuit against the driver, his employer, and the insurance company, seeking Dh500,000 in damages for financial, emotional, and psychological suffering, with a demand for 12 percent annual interest from the date of filing.
