A driver was rescued in dramatic fashion after the cruise control in his vehicle malfunctioned while he was driving on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi, Dubai Police revealed. Responding within minutes of the emergency call, specialized traffic patrol teams coordinated a rescue operation that helped the motorist safely bring his car to a stop—without injuries or damage. “The driver was unable to control the car’s speed because of a cruise control failure. The accelerator and brakes became unresponsive,” explained Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. Traffic units immediately cleared a safe corridor, guiding the driver through live instructions over the phone. “They provided direct step-by-step instructions. Thanks to their efforts, the vehicle was safely maneuvered to the shoulder,” Bin Suwaidan added. Police emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and understanding emergency procedures for electronic systems like cruise control. “Safety begins with awareness. Knowing what to do in a critical moment can save lives,” Bin Suwaidan stressed.
