The Dubai Public Prosecution has sounded the alarm over increasingly deceptive methods being used by drug traffickers, warning that illicit substances are now being disguised as everyday consumer products like energy drinks and paper. Speaking during the “Legal Chats” session, Abdullah Saleh Al Raisi, Assistant Chief Prosecutor at the Dubai Drug Prosecution, revealed that some smuggled drugs are professionally manufactured to resemble common items, making detection more difficult. “These substances can be colourless, tasteless, and odourless, meaning they can be mixed into drinks without the user’s knowledge. Once consumed, they render a person unconscious, making them vulnerable to greater dangers,” Al Raisi said. He explained that traffickers do not distinguish between adults and children when targeting victims. This, he stressed, highlights the urgent need for families to supervise young people and for schools and universities to strengthen awareness campaigns. Al Raisi recalled a tragic case of a university student whose life spiraled out of control after being persuaded by friends to experiment with drugs. “This painful story demonstrates that drug use, even just once, can be enough to destroy a person's future and their entire life,” he said. The prosecutor warned that the packaging of narcotics has evolved, with drugs often made to look like legitimate energy drinks or harmless sheets of paper soaked in dangerous chemicals.
