A driver in Dubai was fined Dh25,000 for drunk driving, colliding with another vehicle, and fleeing the scene. The Indian man, 39, was caught hours after causing the accident on August 18. He was traveling through a Bur Dubai neighborhood when he lost control of his car and crashed into another vehicle stopped on the right side of the road. The man ran, but after a report was filed with Dubai police, cameras detected the vehicle's license plate, allowing him to be tracked down and detained. Officers who arrested him spotted the man acting suspiciously and conducted a breathalyzer to confirm he had alcohol in his system. The UAE maintains a zero-tolerance policy for driving after taking any amount of alcohol. The individual was detained for two days before being released on bail. During questioning, he admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the accident scene. He did not appear for his hearing at Dubai's Traffic Court. Thus the penalty was given in his absence. According to prosecutors, medical and accident analyst findings confirmed the individual was at fault. He was ordered to pay Dh25,000 and was sentenced to eight months in prison if he did not comply. BKM/ Expat Media
