A European woman has been sentenced to one month in jail and fined Dh3,500 by the Dubai Misdemeanour Court after she damaged a chair at a police station while under the influence of alcohol. She will be deported after serving her sentence. According to case documents, the woman was held in police custody after being detained for alcohol abuse. While in custody, she became disruptive and deliberately broke a chair, resisting police attempts to calm her. During her trial, the defendant denied the charges. Her lawyer argued that there was no criminal intent and questioned the legality of her detention. However, the court rejected the defence, affirming the woman’s responsibility for her actions. The judge ruled that intoxication does not absolve a person from legal consequences, stating that “being drunk does not eliminate criminal intent.” ICA/Expat Media
