Drydocks World has launched a public competition to name the Middle East’s largest floating crane — a 5,000-tonne engineering marvel set to arrive in Dubai by summer 2026. The colossal crane is nearly as tall as the Burj Al Arab. It is being built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. And will become the most powerful of its kind in the region, with the ability to lift loads equivalent to 400 double-decker buses or 25 wide-body aircraft. “This crane is more than machinery. It’s a symbol of Dubai’s ambition, resilience, and engineering excellence,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World. Drydocks World is inviting residents of all backgrounds — from engineers to poets — to submit name suggestions that reflect the UAE’s values, maritime heritage, and innovation. Submissions can be in English or Arabic and should include a brief explanation. Participants have until August 4 to submit their entries at dpworld.com. The winning entry will be permanently engraved on the crane. Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, called it “the next leap forward in scale, capability, and innovation.” A panel of experts, including Emirati cultural figures and branding professionals, will review the entries.
