Internationally awarded Filipino artist and architect Edcel La Rosa Cabalan is set to unveil his latest solo exhibit, “Landmarks of Legacy,” on June 14 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The watercolor art showcase, which is part of the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration organized by the Filipino Social Club, features a visual journey through the architectural landscapes of both the Philippines and the UAE. “This exhibition highlights the shared values and rich heritage of the Philippines and the UAE,” said Cabalan. “Through my art, I want to create a cultural dialogue that celebrates our mutual respect and identity.” Cabalan’s art will focus on iconic Filipino and Emirati architectural landmarks, blending impressionist watercolor techniques with storytelling that bridges cultures. A Cebu native, Cabalan has been living in the UAE since 2007, where he works as an architect. He is a recipient of multiple awards, including the Ani ng Dangal 2022, Outstanding Minglanillahanon 2023, and Outstanding Tungkopanon 2024. “The diverse engineering and design requirements in the UAE inspired me to pursue my profession in architecture,” Cabalan told Expat Media. “The region’s dynamic blend of traditional and modern architectural styles, coupled with its ambitious urban development projects, has provided a stimulating environment for my professional growth.” Attendees of the exhibit can expect to be immersed in a visual dialogue that honors the past while celebrating the present, brought to life by one of the Philippines’ finest watercolorists.
