The UAE is set to break another world record with the launch of Emaar Properties Station, which will become the highest metro station in the world at 74 metres. The station is part of the Dubai Metro Blue Line, which is currently under development and set to open in 2029. The design and architectural model of the iconic station were unveiled on Monday (June 9) in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who officially approved the project during a special ceremony. Emaar Properties Station, designed by the globally renowned Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), will stand as a beacon of innovation and sustainability in Dubai’s urban landscape. SOM’s portfolio includes iconic structures such as the Burj Khalifa, the Olympic Tower in New York, and the Sears Tower in Chicago. “This station reflects our commitment to building a future-ready Dubai. It is not only a transportation hub but a symbol of progress and opportunity,” Sheikh Mohammed said during the unveiling.A gateway to the future
The Emaar Properties Station will occupy 11,000 square metres, with the capacity to handle 160,000 passengers daily. By 2040, the daily usage is expected to exceed 70,000, mainly serving the 40,000 residents of Dubai Creek Harbour, as well as commuters and visitors. The architectural design incorporates a central light-filled gateway, natural textures, and premium finishes such as Jura limestone, bronze metal panels, and granite flooring, giving it a luxurious and welcoming feel. The 38-metre-wide structure will allow sunlight to flood its interiors by day, and glow as a radiant landmark at night through a dynamic lighting strategy. The station's interior design reflects sustainability and durability, featuring materials chosen for their environmental efficiency and visual harmony with Dubai's cityscape. Emaar has secured naming rights to the station for ten years, beginning from its scheduled inauguration in 2029. Announcements regarding naming rights for other Blue Line stations are expected in the coming phases. Emaar Properties Station is one of 14 stations on the Dubai Metro Blue Line, which includes three interchange stations: Creek (Green Line), Centrepoint (Red Line), and International City 1 (Blue Line). The Blue Line will have nine elevated stations and five underground stations, and the first metro line to cross Dubai Creek via a 1,300-metre viaduct. The line supports key urban strategies such as the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, helping to transform the city into a "20-minute city" where 80 percent of essential services are accessible within a short commute. The Blue Line connects Dubai International Airport to nine key urban areas, including: • Mirdif • Al Warqa • International City 1 & 2 • Dubai Silicon Oasis • Academic City • Dubai Creek Harbour • Dubai Festival City • Ras Al Khor Industrial Area Travel time across the line is expected to range between 10 to 25 minutes. The stations are designed with full integration in mind, offering bus bays, taxi stands, bike racks, and facilities for People of Determination. Once operational, the line’s maximum capacity could exceed 850,000 passengers per day, further cementing Dubai’s commitment to a smart, sustainable, and inclusive public transport network.
