Emirati gets award for helping stop robbery, kidnapping

An Emirati woman who confronted two men who attempted to kidnap another man in the Al Muraqqabat area has been honored by Dubai Police. Police said Nouf Al Mazrouei’s bravery helped foil an attempted kidnapping and a Dh250,000 robbery in broad daylight. The incident happened at around 1:30pm on September 25 when Mazrouei was on her lunch break and had parked her car outside a restaurant in the area. She saw two men dragging a person to a car and hitting him. She went up to them and told them to stop. One of the men told her to mind her own business before forcing the man inside a white car and driving off. Mazrouei took down the car’s number plate and alerted the Dubai Police, who tracked down and arrested the suspects on Sheikh Zayed Road. Major General Abdullah Khadem bin Suroor Al Massam, director of Bur Dubai Police Station, said Mazrouei’s quick action helped save the victim’s life. “Her smart action foiled the attempted robbery. She has a sense of security as she spotted the men dragging the victim inside the vehicle and drove away quickly,” Al Massam said. The suspects are now facing legal action and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution. For her part, Mazrouei said she was just doing her duty as a concerned citizen. She thanked Dubai Police for recognizing her with a certificate of appreciation. ICA/Expat Media
