Dubai: Employer fined for slapping female worker for smoking e-cigarette in office

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanors fined an investor and his brother Dh5,000 for allegedly assaulting a female employee for using electronic cigarettes at work. They allegedly assaulted her, resulting in injuries that prevented her from working for less than twenty days. The case dates back to last June when an Arab woman reported being assaulted and beaten at work by her boss and his brother. The female employee claimed she was taken aback when her boss entered her office and asked her not to smoke e-cigarettes inside. When she denied it, he smacked her across the face and assaulted her, followed by his brother, who also assaulted her. She quickly left the office and went to the hospital for medical care, after which she filed a report about the occurrence. As a result, the employer and his brother were arrested and questioned. According to the report, the owner told the Court that he asked the female employee not to use electronic cigarettes on the premises of his firm, but she became enraged and began assaulting and insulting him and his brother. In Court, the employer's brother also said that he rushed to the office after hearing her cry. When he saw that she was assaulting and insulting his brother, he asked her to leave the office and resign. Even though she owed the company Dh16,000, which she borrowed to treat her kid, the company reportedly did not require her to pay it. According to the employer's brother, she refused to go and began beating herself. According to the forensic laboratory report, the woman was admitted to the hospital on the day of the incident because she was experiencing discomfort in her left arm and neck and redness in her neck and left arm.
