Dubai Police have reinforced their warning about the dangers of wrong-way driving after a serious crash in the Naif district left an e-scooter rider in critical condition. According to Dubai Police, the collision occurred on an internal road when the rider travelled against the designated traffic flow and struck an approaching vehicle head-on. Emergency teams transported the injured rider to hospital for urgent medical treatment. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasised that driving in the opposite direction of traffic significantly raises the likelihood of catastrophic accidents. “Driving in the wrong direction increases the risk of deadly head-on collisions, endangers drivers and pedestrians, disrupts traffic flow, and leads to serious human and material losses,” he said. He stressed that the rule applies to all types of vehicles, including cars, motorcycles and electric scooters. Ignoring traffic direction, he said, puts lives at immediate risk. Upon receiving the report, Dubai Police’s Command and Control Room dispatched traffic patrol units and ambulance services to manage the scene and assist the injured. Dubai Police confirmed that awareness campaigns will continue and that strict penalties will be imposed on those who violate road safety regulations. CAM/Expat Media
