A Dubai court has fined an Asian expat Dh5,000 and ordered the confiscation of his mobile phone after he was convicted of using Instagram to incite a minor girl outside the UAE into committing indecent acts. The case surfaced last December after the International Child Protection Centre in the United States filed a report to UAE authorities. The report alleged that the suspect, who resides in Dubai, had lured a girl under 18 into performing inappropriate acts over the phone and had sent her pornographic images and videos. Dubai Police launched an investigation, during which they tracked the suspect’s Instagram account and summoned him for questioning. Although he denied the charges, forensic analysis of his mobile phone revealed damning evidence. According to police, the forensic report showed three folders containing 18 pornographic videos and voice chats where the suspect allegedly pressured the girl to send compromising photos and perform indecent acts. “The suspect used Instagram to communicate with the minor and solicited explicit content through private messages and voice calls,” the court noted in its ruling. He was found guilty of violating public morality laws and was fined Dh5,000. His phone, used in the crime, was also confiscated as part of the court’s sentence. ICA/Expat Media
