A Gulf citizen residing in Dubai has been sentenced to three months in jail and had his driving license suspended for six months after being convicted of driving under the influence of drugs, leading to a car crash on Emirates Road. The Dubai Criminal Court found the expatriate guilty of drug possession, consumption, and property damage. The incident occurred in February 2024 when Dubai Police responded to reports of a car accident on Emirates Road. A patrol officer who arrived at the scene found an overturned vehicle that had collided with a concrete barrier. Upon inspecting the car, authorities discovered 10 psychotropic tablets and a blood-stained syringe containing a suspicious liquid substance. The items, along with a sample from the driver, were sent to the Dubai Criminal Laboratory for analysis. Forensic results confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine, which are banned under UAE law. During interrogations, the driver admitted to consuming drugs before getting behind the wheel. He also confessed that his impaired state caused him to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in the crash. Prosecutors presented evidence from the forensic report, which highlighted the dangerous nature of the substances found in the driver’s system.
