Dubai expat wins trip to Philippines with Dh25 meal

  DUBAI – A Chicking meal that she bought for Dh25 turned out to be a lucky choice for a Filipina working in Dubai who won a free trip to the Philippines. Sheree Ann Barro received her prize at Chicking Al Rigga branch on Saturday evening (January 13) from A.K. Mansoor, Chairman and Managing Director of Chicking, and Maqbool Modi, Chicking Director of Operations. Speaking to Expatmedia.net, Barro said she was ordering a Dh20 meal at the homegrown fastfood chain’s Al Khail Gate branch when the staff informed her of the draw, which was launched in December as part of Chicking’s Winter Deals promotion. “I said I just wanted to eat the Dh20 meal but the staff at the counter told me that if I added Dh5, I can enter the draw. So I said okay. I also got to join the instant ‘spin the wheel’ and won free soft drinks,” she told Expatmedia.net in Filipino. Barro, who hails from General Santos City in the Philippines, has been working in the UAE in the last six years. She said she plans to use the tickets to fly to the Philippines in late March in time for her child’s graduation. “Thank you so much, Chicking, for this opportunity. Now I can fly home to meet my family,” she said.
Another expatriate, Steven Altamia, also won a trip to the Philippines but could not attend the awarding ceremony on Saturday. Filipino customers dining in Chicking from December until January 10 were entitled to a coupon to enter the draw for a return trip to the Philippines. They only needed to buy the Dh25 meal that included spaghetti, two pieces of fried chicken, rice, fries, gravy and a cup of cola.
