Dubai is set to build the region’s first fully integrated falcon market after approval from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as part of a series of new urban development projects aimed at enhancing quality of life across the emirate. The Dubai Falcon Market is among several initiatives approved by Sheikh Hamdan, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. The projects support the goals of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and Dubai’s ambition to become one of the world’s best cities to live, work and visit. The specialised market will celebrate falconry, one of the UAE’s most enduring cultural traditions, while creating a modern destination that combines heritage, tourism and innovation. “Dubai continues to develop transformative urban projects guided by a comprehensive vision that places people and quality of life at the heart of its priorities, while adopting innovation, sustainability, and advanced technology as key pillars in shaping the future of the city,” Sheikh Hamdan said. “We believe that the cities best prepared for the future are those capable of creating resilient urban environments, integrated facilities, and enriching urban experiences that reflect identity, culture, and the aspirations of society,” he added.

Inspired by the falcon’s wings

Dubai Municipality said the market’s architectural design will be inspired by the wings of a falcon, symbolising strength, movement and connection while blending traditional Emirati identity with contemporary design. The project will cover approximately 50,000 square feet and is expected to cost around Dh50 million. Facilities will include specialised retail outlets for falcons and falconry supplies, a fully integrated veterinary clinic, visitor services, and dedicated spaces for cultural and heritage events. The market is also expected to become a major attraction showcasing falconry as an important part of the UAE’s national identity. The project forms part of Dubai’s wider strategy to develop rural and desert areas while preserving their environmental and heritage character. Officials said the initiative aims to create sustainable destinations that improve quality of life, preserve local traditions, and provide unique experiences for residents and tourists. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said the new projects demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to future-focused urban development. “These projects reflect Dubai’s vision of developing a more sustainable and higher-quality city by introducing innovative urban models that integrate advanced infrastructure, cultural identity, and future technologies, contributing to community wellbeing and enhanced quality of life,” bin Ghalita said.
