Dubai: Five jailed for assaulting a man after mistaking him as a member of another gang

Five African were convicted of attacking an Asian guy with sticks after mistaking him for a rival gang member. According to police investigations, a man filed a report claiming that an Asian national had been attacked in Dubai's Muhaisnah neighborhood. He was at home when he heard a fight in the neighborhood. When he peeked out his window, he noticed two gangs fighting. He claimed that after a short while, he witnessed a group of Africans return to the location and assault an Asian man. He went on to say that the gangs were illegally selling alcohol to passers-by. The witness called the police and an ambulance, and the victim was transferred to a hospital. According to the case papers, the victim stated that while walking through the Muhaisnah district of Dubai, people of African descent suddenly struck him with weapons. The forensic laboratory report stated that the victim experienced injuries that prevented him from performing his work for more than 20 days and caused him a lifelong disability. According to a police officer, a team of investigators gathered evidence, identified and detained gang members, and referred them to justice. The Criminal Court in Dubai convicted them and sentenced them to one year in jail, followed by deportation from the country. BKM/ Expat Media
