Dubai: Five jailed after breaking into an apartment, stealing Dh1.1 million
Five persons have been convicted of impersonating police officers and stealing Dh1.1 million from an investor. According to the victim's testimony, he heard loud noises near his apartment door on the evening of the event. Several people attempted to enter the apartment when he went to check the door. Despite the victim and his cousin's efforts to lock the door, the burglars broke it down and entered the apartment. The robbers broke into the residence and assaulted the victims. They escaped after stealing Dh1.1 million from a drawer. According to the case file, an investigating team was able to identify the gang members and apprehend one of them at Dubai Airport before he fled the country. He confessed to his crime and alerted the police about the others, who were eventually apprehended and charged. They were all convicted by the Dubai Criminal Court and sentenced to five years in prison, followed by deportation. They were also jointly fined the amount of the stolen money.
