Dubai Floating Bridge to close for 5 weeks

The Floating Bridge in Dubai will be closed for five weeks starting next week, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Friday (April 14). The bridge will be closed in both directions starting on Monday (April 17). According to the RTA, the Floating Bridge will undergo major maintenance works. The RTA has advised motorists to take alternative routes, including the Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Mamzar Exit or the Infinity Bridge. Motorists coming from Al Ittihad Street can take the Al Mamzar Exit, which will be opened to the public. The route was previously restricted to taxis and buses. Commuters coming from Deira to Bur Dubai can take the Infinity Bridge. The Floating Bridge in Dubai, built by Waagner-Biro, is considered the first of its kind in the UAE. It spans six lanes over the  Dubai Creek. It features two 115m-long concrete pontoons and a hydraulically driven, steel swing gate that provides an unobstructed shipping lane. The bridge was completed in a record time of just 23 days in 2007. ICA/Expat Media
