Renovation work is in full swing at the world-famous Dubai Fountain, which has been temporarily closed for a five-month upgrade that began in May. During Expat Media’s visit on Friday (June 13), the fountain area remained partially cordoned off, with the massive network of waterjets completely drained. To maintain the viewing experience near Burj Khalifa, LED screens now line the construction barriers, offering digital displays to keep tourists entertained. The Dubai Fountain—located at the base of the Burj Khalifa and adjacent to Dubai Mall—is the world’s largest choreographed fountain system and a major draw for both tourists and residents since its debut in 2009. The final fountain show before the renovation took place on April 19. According to developer Emaar, the renovation will feature cutting-edge updates including upgraded choreography, improved lighting and sound systems, and a more immersive experience. “While the fountain is temporarily out of operation, visitors can still enjoy the vibrant attractions of Downtown Dubai, including world-class shopping and dining at Dubai Mall,” Emaar said in a statement. The enhancement project aims to maintain the fountain’s iconic status and further cement Dubai’s position as a leading global tourist destination. The Dubai Fountain is expected to return in September with even more spectacular shows.
