Dubai: Four men jailed after kidnapping, torturing woman
Four Chinese men were sentenced to three years in prison by the Dubai Criminal Court for kidnapping and torturing a woman. The woman from China was abducted on August 3, last year. A man who had met her a month earlier arranged to meet in Jebel Ali to buy a digital currency from her. The man was accompanied by three others when the woman arrived by car to meet him. One of them presented her with a Chinese police ID card and informed her that she was wanted in her native country on corruption charges. They pulled her out of her car's driver's seat and into the back, tied her up, and covered her face. According to prosecutors, she was taken to a place in Dubai Investment Park where she was beaten up, stripped, and tortured with a Taser gun. The men forced her to unlock her phone to access her digital currency wallet. They transferred 8,000 units of digital money valued at around Dh30,000, as well as Dh8,000 in cash from her pocketbook and Dh7,500 from her Louis Vuitton bag. They photographed the woman and threatened to publish them online if she reported them to the police. They drove away, leaving their victim in the car, but she managed to remove the mask and see their license plate. She reported the robbery to the police. The suspects were tracked down and arrested. They rejected kidnapping, torture, and theft claims in court. All four were found guilty and will be deported after serving their prison sentences.
