A gang of four impersonated CID officials to steal 1kg of gold from an Asian man. They were convicted and sentenced to three years in prison by the Dubai Criminal Court. They were also fined Dh215,000, the value of the stolen gold. Last February, an Asian claimed to have been robbed by a gang of four persons, including a Gulf national. According to the victim, he received a call from one of the accused, who informed him that he was a jeweler and wished to shape the gold bar he owned. He agreed to meet the accused at a jewelry store in Karama, where he was surprised to discover three other people. The others claimed to be police officers and said he would be arrested for promoting fake gold. They then tried to rob him, but he refused. The group attacked him, seized the gold bar, and fled the scene. According to a police officer participating in the investigation, a CID team gathered evidence and identified the car's owner used to perpetrate the crime. This led the squad to the other gang members with the gold bar.
