The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a verdict by the Court of First Instance that sentenced an Eastern European gang to a year in prison. The gang was also forced to pay Dh1,400,000. They will be deported once they have served their sentences. A luxury vehicle rental company representative reported the theft of a 2019 Lamborghini valued at Dh1,400,000 in March. According to his testimony, one of the defendants rented the vehicle for seven days and paid the rental fee after providing all the necessary documentation. He went on to say that a company representative delivered the vehicle to the specified address of a villa in Palm Jumeirah, where the accused accepted it. The accused did not return the car on time after the lease expired, so the police were notified. A Dubai Police investigating team acquired evidence and identified the suspects. It was discovered that the first suspect rented the vehicle, gave it over to the gang members, and then fled the country. According to a police officer involved in the inquiry, all five suspects were identified and apprehended. One of them admitted that they were told to detach the GPS device and connect it to an external battery so that their crime would not be revealed. Another admitted that he modified the engine base numbers and presented them with other car license plates with the assistance of the other accused. They handed over the vehicle to a shipping business, which used falsified documents to take it out of the country.
