Dubai gas blast survivors remain in hospital

  DUBAI – Nearly two weeks after a deadly gas pipe explosion in a Bur Dubai building, two survivors are still in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Dubai. According to the Consulate General of Pakistan, a male Pakistani survivor is recovering from 50 percent burns to his body at Rashid Hospital. The man, a mechanic, was trying to repair the leak in an apartment in the building before the explosion occurred. He is currently on a ventilator and unconscious at Rashid Hospital where officials from the consulate have been regularly visiting him. A 35-year-old Indian woman, a resident of the apartment where the blast occurred, sustained 75 percent burns in her body. She will reportedly need reconstructive surgery due to severe burns on her face. A gas pipe explosion in a sixth floor apartment in Al Ghurair Building in Mankhool, Bur Dubai on September 8 left an Indian man dead. His body was repatriated on October 3.
