Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has issued a warning to UAE residents regarding a recent surge in scams involving impersonation of government officials. The GDRFA's advisory comes in response to increased fraudulent attempts where scammers trick individuals into sharing their One-Time Passwords (OTPs) under the guise of official notifications. In a statement released through their official X platform account, the GDRFA cautioned residents to be vigilant when receiving notifications requesting OTPs. These deceptive messages often appear as login requests for the UAE PASS app, which can lead to serious financial repercussions if personal security details are compromised. The GDRFA has emphasized that any unsolicited requests for OTPs should be immediately disregarded. They further advised individuals to contact the Amer call center at the toll-free number 800511 if they have any concerns or suspect fraudulent activity. These types of scams exploit the trust that residents place in official communications. The GDRFA’s warning aims to prevent such incidents by educating the public about the importance of safeguarding their digital credentials and reporting suspicious activities promptly. Scammers often employ sophisticated tactics to mimic official communications, making it crucial for individuals to verify the authenticity of any requests for sensitive information. The GDRFA continues to work with law enforcement agencies to track and apprehend those behind these malicious schemes. For anyone who believes they have been targeted by such scams, the GDRFA encourages reporting the incident immediately to assist in ongoing investigations and to prevent further fraud.
