Emirate enters deal with two agencies on setting up financing platform

  DUBAI – The emirate has secured US$3billion credit facilities for the expansion and development of the Dubai International Airport (DXB) and the Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). WAM news agenct reported that Dubai's finance ministry has entered into a funding agreement with two agencies for the expansion of Dubai's two airports. The Department of Finance, along with the Investment Corporation of Dubai and the Dubai Aviation City Corporation – advised by the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) – also agreed to establish the Airport Financing Company FZE (FINCO), which will serve as a funding platform for Dubai Airports. The credit facilities comprise a US$1.625-billion, seven-year Conventional and a $1.475 billion equivalent AED denominated seven-year Ijara, WAM reported. According to Sheikh Ahmed, chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, the credit facilities is part of the the first stage of a larger funding program that will transform DWC into the primary airport for Dubai, serving up to 146 million passengers by 2025. DXB is the world's largest international airport and the gateway has served 84.5 million passengers as of the end of 2016. The new Al Maktoum International Airport is planned to become the primary airport for Dubai as well as the home to Emirates Airline beginning in 2025. "Dubai remains firmly committed to the development of DWC and to growth of the global aviation sector, and this initial $3 billion transaction to support Dubai's ambitious 2025 passenger capacity target is testament to our belief," said Sheikh Ahmed, who is also chairman of Emirates Group and of Dubai's Supreme Fiscal Committee. On the other hand, Abdulrahman Saleh Al Saleh, director general of the Dubai Department of Finance, said, "the planned expansion of both of the city's airports is critically important, and our department is proud to play a vital role in their ongoing financing, just as we have with other similarly major projects."
