The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially renamed Dubai Metro's GGICO Station to Al Garhoud Station effective on Monday (April 14) as part of its ongoing initiative to enhance navigation and information systems across the Dubai Metro. Despite the official name change taking effect on Monday, Expat Media found during a visit to the station at around 11am that signages and automated announcements onboard trains had not yet been updated to reflect the new name. The RTA has not provided a timeline for when the physical signboards or automated announcements will be fully updated. On Friday (April 11), the RTA announced on social media platform X: “In line with our efforts to improve transportation services and updating our information for seamless experience for everyone, we would like to inform you that GGICO Metro Station has changed to Al Garhoud Station as of April 14, 2025. New name, same destination, maximum efficiency.” Previously named after the Gulf General Investment Company (GGICO)—a publicly listed firm established in 1973 and traded on the Dubai Financial Market—the metro station will now take on the name of its geographical location, Al Garhoud, a move aligned with the RTA’s strategy to improve commuter clarity. To assist passengers with the transition, the RTA also shared a video online showing the updated map of Dubai Metro lines and how to locate the Al Garhoud Station. This is the second metro station renaming in recent weeks. In March, the RTA renamed Al Khail Metro Station to Al Fardan Exchange Metro Station after a naming rights agreement with the financial services company. Earlier this month, the RTA carried out extensive works to update name boards and signages in and around several metro stations, signaling a wider rebranding campaign across the Dubai Metro network.
