Mohammad Sharrif Al Mulla established the first pharmacy in the emirate

  DUBAI – Esteemed Emirati physician Mohammad Sharrif Al Mulla, who established the first pharmacy in Dubai, died in London on Wednesday. He is survived by a son and five daughters. Al Mulla, who was in his 80s, is considered as Dubai's health sector pioneer after he set up the first drugstore in the country at Gold Souq - the Mohammad Sharrif Pharmacy. According to reports, Al Mulla was one of the handful of doctors practising in the UAE back in the 1950s and 1960s and was known for his dedication to treating Emirati patients. Al Mulla would treat patients at their homes and walking around Dubai to vaccinate families against diseases, reports said. Mohammad Al Zarouni, director of Emirates Red Crescent and Al Mulla's son-in-law, said his father-in-law was "distinguished by his humanitarian work and his heartfelt affection towards the community." "He served many people in the emirate of Dubai and worked persistently on improving his knowledge in medicine so that he could treat people with various diseases and illnesses," Al Zarouni added. Dr Najib Al Khaja, a cardiology consultant, recalled that when someone knocked at his door to seek treatment, Al Mulla would get up even if it was in the middle of the night. "He was an example of love and goodness. His expertise and knowledge of medicine helped him in understanding the nature of diseases at that time," he said.
