Dubai Hills hit-and-run: Filipina victim buried in Philippines

Filipina hit-and-run victim Gina Añolga Sorianosos was buried on Wednesday (February 22) following a 9-day wake at her home in Mlang, a municipality in the Philippine province of Cotabato. Sorianosos, 48, was hit by a car in Dubai Hills on the evening of February 2. She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Witnesses said Sorianosos was on her way home from work in Dubai Hills, also known as Dubai Hills Estate, when she was hit by a car at the pedestrian crossing. She was trying to catch the free bus home from the luxury residential area located within Mohammed bin Rashid City. The suspect is now in police detention, her sister, Mariasol Añolga Galaraga, confirmed to Expatmedia.net. Sorianosos is survived by her husband, their two sons and daughter. Gina also has six siblings, including her elder sister Mariasol, who is based in Saudi Arabia. On Tuesday, mourners gathered at Sorianosos’ house to attend the funeral and burial. The Filipina OFW (overseas Filipino worker) was buried in an above-ground tomb just a few metres from the family’s home. "It is what her children wanted," Mariasol told Expatmedia.net. The municipality of Mlang has a public cemetery but it is customary for some residents to prefer having their dead loved one buried within the grounds of their home.
