DUBAI – Dubai’s hospitality icon, Abdin Nasralla, has died. He was in his 70s.
Nasralla’s former colleagues in Dubai said that the retired hospitality adviser died in Egypt on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
“With deep sadness, hospitality lost one of its pillars and a personal mentor. Abdin Nasralla. R.I.P.,” Mohamed Sedky, General Manager of Treppan Hotel & Suites by Fakhruddin, wrote on social media.
Sedky, who worked with Nasralla when the latter was Vice President for Hospitality at Meydan Hotels & Hospitality, described his former boss as a “great manager, mentor and father figure”.
“He was extremely dedicated to his job, with a sharp eye for details and passion for success,” Sedky told expatmedia.net, adding that Nasralla helped Dubai’s Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa bag multiple awards when the latter managed the luxury resort under the Meydan Hotels & Hospitality group from 2011 to 2015.
“He was a one-of-a-kind manager. I learned a lot of techniques in hospitality from him and I still apply those techniques today, and they work with great success,” Sedky said, adding his "deepest condolences to the Nasralla family for the loss of a great man."
The Egypt-born Nasralla held a big influence on Dubai’s hospitality scene and was named among Hotelier Middle East’s Power 50 figures. He was the CEO of Dubai Gourmet until 2017 before his retirement.
He was reportedly given a UAE citizenship for this contribution to the UAE’s hospitality industry.
He served as hospitality consultant to some of Dubai’s biggest hotel groups, including Jumeirah Group and The Meydan Hotels.
Before joining Jumeirah, Nasralla spent 17 years with Jebel Ali Hotel and Golf Club in Dubai, and also served as resident manager of The Meena House Oberoi in Cairo, Egypt.
