Dubai to host first Miss Universe UAE
DUBAI – Miss Universe UAE will be held in Dubai for the first time in November to select a beauty queen from the UAE to represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant, the Miss Universe Organisation announced on Thursday (October 7). This is the first time that a beauty queen from the UAE will compete in the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Israel in December. The UAE pageant will be held at La Perle in Al Habtoor City on November 7. It will not feature a swimwear round, but will have a fashion couture round by Filipino designer Furne One. UAE residents of any nationality, between the ages of 18 and 28, can participate in Miss Universe UAE, according to Yugen Events. Participants need to register online on missuniverseuae.com starting October 7. Shortlisted participants will get a personal casting call on October 15 at Al Habtoor Palace Hotel. Only 30 applicants, announced on October 20, will advance to the live pageant at La Perle. The Miss Universe UAE has appointed members of the council in charge of the event, which includes former beauty queen Maggie Wilson as Creative Consultant and award-winning designer Furne Amato as Head of Creatives. Other council members include Josh Yugen, President and National Director; Alaf Meky, Head of Charities and Philanthropy; Zel Ali, Head of Compassion and Empowerment and Sharihan Al Mashary, Head of Communications. Several former Miss Universe queens have visited Dubai, including Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, who featured in Expat Media’s React Challenge. This December, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is coming to Dubai for a concert with Sam Milby, Yeng Constantino, Erik Santos and K Brosas. The concert, happening on December 10 at Festival Arena at Dubai Festival City, is produced and organised by Creative Minds Events Organizing.
