July 1 deadline for Dubai hotels to cut municipality fee

DUBAI – Staying in hotels or dining in one of their restaurants are expected to be cheaper starting on July 1 when the deadline to cut the municipality fee is implemented. The Dubai Municipality has confirmed that it will implement the government’s decision to cut 30 percent of municipality fee applicable in hotels and certain other hospitality firms from July 1. This means that all services in hotels, hotel apartments and restaurants serving alcohol will implement the 30 percent cut in municipality fee. Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, on Monday announced the reduction of municipal fee from 10 percent to seven per cent to enhance competitiveness and encourage investment in the hotel and tourism sector in Dubai. The fee cut affects around 900 establishments including hotels, hotel apartments and restaurants with permits to sell alcohol. Hotels will need to implement the fee cut from all their services, including room facilities, food and beverages, spa, gym and swimming pool. Officials said establishment found violating the fee cut will be fined.
