Dubai housewife's stalker faces trial

  DUBAI – A 39-year-old Egyptian is on trial in Dubai on charges of stalking an Algerian woman and molesting her in her apartment. The defendant did not show up at his trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday (June 13). The woman testified in court that the man was hired to offer legal advice to her husband, who was in prison. After several meetings with her, "he started contacting me more often and SMSed me … he also sweet-talked me and flattered me a lot. I told him to stop," she told the court. The Egyptian also allegedly opened up to her about his marital disputes and brought gifts for her children, she said. "He told me to live my life and not to wait for my husband, claiming that his stay in prison would be long," she said. She added that she had changed her contact numbers to discourage him from stalking her further. However, he reportedly continued to stalk her even after her husband was released from jail. She told the court that the suspect had entered her apartment and molested her and that she injured her hand while defending herself. The trial resumes on July 11.
