Dubai to impose up to Dh100,000 fine for iftar meals without permit
Authorities in Dubai will be imposing a fine of up to Dh100,000 on those who will distribute iftar meals without a permit, the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities announced on Friday (March 17). Giving out meals without a permit would be considered an unauthorized charitable act, according to the department. Mohammed Mosabh Dahi, deputy director for charitable activities at the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, said that violators will be held legally accountable. Under UAE laws, it is illegal to promote or collect donations without a permit. The fine ranges from Dh5,000 to Dh100,000, with a jail term of between one month to 12 months. "Violators will be referred to the competent judicial authorities, as stated in the decree regulating fundraising in the Emirate of Dubai for the year 2015,” Dahi said. He said that those who want to distribute iftar meals must get the permission of the department, and inform them about the location and date of the meal distribution.
