Dubai Police has introduced additional penalties for multiple traffic offences. These penalties aim to improve enforcement, reduce accidents, and promote safer roads. After reviewing Decree No. 29 of 2015 and its amendments, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police has introduced impoundment as an additional penalty to the existing ones. 30-day impoundment for violating the following traffic offences: - Sudden deviation or suddenly changing lanes in a way that endangers lives, property, or traffic safety. - Tailgating or not keeping a safe distance between your vehicle and the one ahead. - Getting distracted while driving by using your phone or other devices. - Heavy vehicles not staying in their designated lanes. 14-day impoundment for violating these traffic offences: - Entering the road without checking if it is clear. - Reversing in a way that endangers lives, property, or traffic safety. - Not staying in the correct lane. - Stopping in the middle of the road for no reason. - Dangerous overtaking. - Lacking necessary safety features in the vehicle. - Parking on the hard shoulder without an emergency, or overtaking using the hard shoulder. - Driving without a licence plate or with only one plate. - Driving in a way that obstructs traffic. - Changing the vehicle’s colour without permission. This is not the first time Dubai authorities have added more penalties for traffic offenses. Last year, they introduced a Dh50,000 fee to release vehicles seized for serious violations.
