Dubai: Influencer fined Dh5,000 after insulting private hospital on social media

A social media influencer of Gulf descent who insulted a private hospital on her Instagram account was found guilty by the Criminal Court of First Instance, and the Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the decision. The court fined the defendant Dh5,000 and ordered her to take down the offensive video. The hospital administration claimed that the woman posted the video and referred to the hospital as the 'worst.' They further stated that she used derogatory language and claimed the location didn't deserve to be a hospital. The staff was offended when she criticized the license. The hospital said she also posted a poll for her followers, asking them to vote on whether or not they thought it was the worst hospital. They added that she incited her followers to abuse the facility as her mother was admitted to the hospital and saw changes in her skin after the nurses took a blood sample. In response to questions from Public Prosecution, she denied the accusations. She claimed that she had only posted about an incident with her mother, which the hospital mistook for an insult. She added that she had complained to the hospital administration about her mother's circumstances. However, when she followed up on the matter two weeks later by calling the hospital, they claimed they were not at fault and that it was common for the skin's color to change after a needle was inserted. She subsequently took down the videos she had published online. She had disclosed the incident that occurred with her mother, according to a report on the content posted on her platform by the Department of Cyber Crime and Electronic Evidence at the General Department of Criminal Evidence in the Dubai Police. Additionally, it stated that her followers had sent her Direct Messages in agreement that it was the worst hospital. The study also supported her claim that she doesn't typically share unfavorable information on social media. She added that she would speak out about the incident. BKM/ Expat Media
