The Salik toll gate on Al Garhoud Bridge in Dubai. RTA
Motorists in Dubai will soon experience an increase in Salik toll fees during peak hours as part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) new Variable Road Toll Pricing system, set to roll out by the end of January. Peak-hour Salik toll fees will increase to Dh6 from the current flat rate of Dh4. The increased rate will apply on weekdays from 6am to 10am and from 4pm to 8pm. Off-peak tolls will remain at Dh4, with toll-free passage during late-night hours from 1am to 6am. The move is part of the RTA’s broader strategy to alleviate congestion on Dubai’s busiest roads. A spokesperson for the RTA stated, “Variable pricing encourages motorists to travel during off-peak times, reducing strain on road networks and improving overall efficiency.” There are 10 Salik toll gates across Dubai, including newly activated ones at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road. Other gates are located at critical traffic points like Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, and Jebel Ali.
