Starting in January, Dubai Municipality will increase sewerage fees to fund critical infrastructure developments and support sustainable urban growth.

The new sewerage fees will start at 1.5 fils per gallon in 2025, then increase to 2 fils in 2026, and finally reach 2.8 fils per gallon by 2027. The revised fees will be rolled out in phases over the next three years and will be applied to homeowners and tenants within areas managed by Dubai Municipality. The announcement marks the first fee increase in nine years. A Dubai Government Media Office statement noted that the increase aligns with the emirate’s rapid population growth and infrastructure demands. "Dubai’s robust economic growth, coupled with a significant population increase, has driven the need for continuous infrastructure development across all service sectors," the statement said, projecting that Dubai’s population could reach 7.8 million by 2040. Dubai Municipality aims to keep tariffs below the global average, even with the fee increase, making it affordable compared to other cities with similar GDP per capita. The adjustment also intends to encourage water conservation among residents and visitors. “This increase promotes water conservation in the emirate and contributes to sustainable practices, ensuring that Dubai remains future-ready,” the media office emphasized. The announcement follows Dubai’s earlier 2015 sewerage fee of 1 fil per gallon, which was initially applied to properties connected to both public and private networks. This new measure is a part of the city’s wider commitment to a sustainable and resilient infrastructure. ICA/Expat Media
