Anyone caught trying to lure people to use illegal drugs will face jail time and a hefty fine, according to the Dubai Public Prosecution. Under the UAE law, inducing or inciting a person to abuse narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is considered a crime that carries harsh penalties of at least five years imprisonment, and a Dh50,000 fine. The law also punishes anyone caught transferring or depositing money to buy or use illegal drugs and substances. The penalty is jail time and a fine of not less than Dh50,000. For drug users, the penalty is more focused on their rehabilitation. “Drug user would not be prosecuted if he or she comes forward to the authorities to seek treatment for addiction,” according to Dubai Police. Under the UAE’s Anti-Drug Law, addicts who voluntarily approach the Public Prosecution and seek help for treatment will not face criminal charges. Addicts are also required to surrender to authorities any drug in their possession. Addicts who refuse treatment, however, will face legal action. ICA/Expat Media
