Dubai jails 3 who forced teen into prostitution

Three Bangladeshi men have been jailed in Dubai for forcing a teenage girl into prostitution. The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a decision by the Dubai Criminal Court that convicted the trio of human trafficking and sentenced them to three years in jail, followed by deportation. The men were arrested on May 23 after police received a tip-off about the 17-year-old girl forced into prostitution at a club in Al Muraqqabat area. An undercover policeman posed as a customer and was asked to pay Dh3,300 before he was left alone in a room with the girl. This signaled police to arrest the men behind the illegal activity. Police investigation revealed that the men, aged between 34 and 47, supplied prostitutes at a club in Dubai. Police also found that it was the 47-year-old manager of the club who lured the teen to Dubai. “He issued her a visa and bought her the airplane ticket then forced her to do work she did not want to do,” a police officer testified in court. During questioning, the victim told police that she was locked in an apartment in Al Mutainah area with a number of other girls. They were given food and water but were not allowed to leave the apartment, except to go to the club to meet customers. ICA/Expat Media
