Dubai police rescue housemaid locked in apartment and forced into prostitution
Three Asians have been sentenced to five years in jail followed by deportation after they forced a housemaid to work as a prostitute in Dubai. The Dubai Criminal Court found the trio guilty of human trafficking. The court heard that housemaid received a job offer from an Asian woman on Facebook, but that when they met, she was instead taken by a man who forced her into a brothel. The incident took place in Al Quoz Industrial Area where the woman was kept in an apartment and forced to work as a prostitute. She was only allowed to use her mobile phone to call her parents. The victim said she refused to work as a prostitute and tried to escape but that the woman and a man assaulted her. She was eventually able to escape after asking help from a customer who assisted her with information on the apartment where she was kept, and then alerted police. A team of detectives tracked down the housemaid in the apartment and arrested the gang members. Police found that the group ran a brothel using women of various nationalities. During interrogation, one of the gang members admitted creating a Facebook page to lure women and then selling them as prostitutes.
