Four security guards have been jailed in Dubai and fined Dh264,000 for robbing an accountant of Dh2 million in Jebel Ali. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two security guards to five years in jail, while two others were sentenced to three years in jail. They will be deported after serving their jail terms. The case dates back to December last year when an African security guard robbed a female accountant in her office in Jebel Ali. The victim said that the security guard, who worked as private security for the company manager, assaulted her and her assistant with an electric shock device and threatened to kill them. He then took a bag containing Dh2 million worth of employees’ salaries. The accountant said that she had asked the security guard to collect his salary in her office, but did not expect that he would rob her. The accountant’s assistant also testified that the security guard used the electric shock device on them before fleeing with the bags of cash. Witnesses saw the main perpetrator assisted by three other security guards who acted as lookouts outside the accountant’s office. Employees were able to stop the guard and his accomplices and grappled with the bag, causing it to burst open and scatter bundles of money. Two security guards took off with Dh300,000 in cash, while two others were arrested in the office. Employees were able to retrieve most of the stolen cash. Police detectives traced and arrested two of the perpetrators at the Dubai airport. Police seized Dh240,000 in their possession.
