A jobseeker in Dubai has raised an alert after receiving a fraudulent job offer for a security personnel role, sparking renewed warnings about online job scams. M.B., a Nigerian, was initially optimistic about securing the position but grew suspicious after receiving a poorly formatted offer letter requesting upfront payments. M.B. shared his experience, explaining, “I was desperate for a job that offers a visa for my nationality. After an online interview and a supposed security certification, they sent me an offer letter with a Dh105 medical test fee. It just didn’t feel legitimate.” Upon further inspection, M.B. found multiple red flags, including spelling errors and a missing official signature. A representative from the legitimate security company confirmed to Expat Media that the offer letter was indeed a scam. “Our company follows a strict hiring process and does not solicit any payments from applicants,” the representative said, underscoring that genuine companies in the UAE do not charge fees at any employment stage. Authorities have repeatedly warned against fake job offers in the UAE, where fraudsters often mimic well-known companies and government agencies to solicit money from unsuspecting jobseekers. Official logos are frequently used to give an air of legitimacy, leading applicants to send personal information or funds to scammers. Dubai Police urges jobseekers to verify any job offer directly with the company and to report suspicious emails. “Many fraudsters are hoping to capitalize on the job search anxiety that jobseekers face,” a police spokesperson added.
