  DUBAI – Jobseekers in Dubai should be wary of recruiters promising high-paying jobs in Turkey as these could turn out to be non-existent, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai has warned. In a statement sent to Expat Media on Tuesday (November 1), the consulate said it received information from the Philippine consulate in Turkey about Filipinos who travelled to the country from Dubai after they were promised high-paying jobs there. When they arrived in Turkey, there was no permanent job waiting for them and the Filipinos were forced to work multiple jobs just to survive, the consulate said. In September, the Philippine consulate in Dubai also issued a warning against jobs offered through social media networks, saying these could be traps laid by illegal recruiters. The Philippine mission urged jobseekers, particularly Filipinos, to be cautious “about illegal recruitment activities done through Facebook, which lure workers from the Philippines who are then deployed as household staff workers (HSW).” In these cases, “workers are illegally recruited and deployed and many of them later run away from their employers for a number of reasons, including being overworked and ill prepared for work”, according to the consulate advisory.
