Dubai is set to begin construction of its first air taxi station this year, marking a significant milestone in the emirate's journey towards futuristic urban transportation. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that Dubai’s air taxi service will officially launch in 2026, with initial operations expected to begin late in 2025. This initiative aligns with Dubai's vision of becoming a global leader in advanced mobility solutions, offering residents and tourists an innovative way to navigate the city. Khalid Al Awadhi, Director of the Public Transport Systems Department at the RTA, revealed that four air taxi stations will be constructed in different parts of Dubai. The strategic placement of these stations will ensure seamless connectivity to key areas, including hotels, airports, and popular tourist destinations. "Our objective is to facilitate enhanced connectivity," Al Awadhi emphasized, noting that the RTA has been enhancing Dubai's transport infrastructure for the past 15 years.

Where will the air taxis be located in Dubai?

It was previously announced that Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Dubai Downtown will be the launch locations for Dubai’s air taxi service. The development of the air taxi infrastructure is a key focus for the RTA. During a recent press conference at the World Congress & Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems in Dubai, Al Awadhi elaborated on the meticulous planning involved. Al Awadhi explained that the RTA is currently working to upgrade the city’s infrastructure to meet the unique requirements of air taxis, thereby improving overall system efficiency and user experience. This development is expected to revolutionize urban transportation, reducing travel times and providing a futuristic mobility solution. As part of this groundbreaking project, the RTA has partnered with Joby Aviation to manufacture a four-seat aircraft capable of reaching speeds up to 320 km/h. According to Taylor Terrerotola, General Manager of Joby in the Middle East, 90 percent of the aircraft's components are designed in-house, contributing to the advancement of future aviation technology. The aircraft is equipped with wings that enhance its speed, setting it apart from conventional aircraft. Dubai’s first air taxi service aims to significantly reduce travel time across the city. Terrerotola highlighted that a trip from the airport to Palm Jumeirah, which typically takes about an hour by traditional means, will require only about ten minutes using an air taxi. ICA/Expat Media
